Looking for the top mobile plans for laptops in Canada in 2026? If you need a mobile plan to power a laptop—through tethering, mobile hotspot, or a dedicated data SIM—you're looking at the same plans used for phones, since tethering simply draws from your plan's own data allowance. This page compares 64 monthly mobile plans with more than 10GB of data across 9 Canadian carriers, so you can find the best value for laptop-level data use in 2026, broken down by network, price, and how much data you actually get.
Note on hotspot/tethering: Using your plan's data to power a laptop, tablet, or other device over Wi-Fi (tethering/hotspot) generally draws from your plan's own data allowance, not a separate bucket. Hotspot/tethering availability and any device-specific restrictions should be confirmed directly with your carrier before signing up.
*Averages are based on 64 monthly-billed plans (10GB+ data, unlimited talk & text) collected by Topicks.ca and do not represent official or complete market statistics.

Top Unlimited Data Plans for Laptops in 2026
8 plans in this dataset offer unlimited data, ranging from $80 to $100 per month.
Bell hotspot caveat: Bell's "unlimited" plans (Ultra, Max, Select, Lite) are unlimited for on-device use, but hotspot/tethering specifically is capped at 50GB/mo at full speed (up to 2Gbps). After that, hotspot speed drops to roughly 512Kbps, even though the phone's own data stays full-speed. This is specific to Bell — other carriers in this comparison don't have a documented separate hotspot speed cap.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions: Top Mobile Plans for Laptops in Canada 2026
Can I use a regular phone plan to power a laptop?
Yes. Tethering or mobile hotspot lets a laptop, tablet, or other device connect to the internet through your phone plan's own Wi-Fi signal. This draws from the plan's regular data allowance rather than a separate bucket. Hotspot/tethering availability and any device-specific settings should be confirmed with your carrier before signing up.
What is the cheapest plan with enough data for laptop use?
The cheapest qualifying plan in this comparison is $35/mo. For finite-data plans specifically, Telus Mobility for Good 20GB (Seniors) at $35/mo for 20 GB offers the lowest entry price.
What is the best value plan for laptop/hotspot data?
Freedom Mobile 250GB 5G Unlimited Canada-U.S.-Mexico + Roam Beyond offers the best cost-per-GB in this dataset at $0.28/GB ($70/mo for 250 GB).
How much data does the average Canadian mobile plan include?
Across the 64 monthly plans in this dataset, the average price is $66.00/mo and the average data allowance (excluding the 16 unlimited plans) is 81.3 GB.
Are Quebec prices different for laptop/hotspot plans?
Yes, several carriers price Quebec plans lower than the rest of Canada for the same data tier. See the Quebec Pricing table above for a full comparison.
Does Bell's unlimited data plan really give unlimited hotspot data?
Not quite. Bell's unlimited plans (Ultra, Max, Select, Lite) are unlimited for on-device use, but hotspot/tethering specifically is capped at 50GB/mo at full speed (up to 2Gbps). After that threshold, hotspot speed drops to roughly 512Kbps for tethered devices like laptops, even though the phone itself keeps its full-speed connection. This cap is specific to Bell; verify hotspot policies with other carriers directly, as they are not all documented the same way.
