Chatr Mobile and PC Mobile are both prepaid, no-contract budget carriers backed by two of Canada's big three networks. Chatr is a Rogers-owned carrier running on the Rogers network nationwide, while PC Mobile operates on the Bell network and ties every plan to PC Optimum rewards. Neither sells phones, offers device financing, or guarantees a price lock. The differences come down to network, speed, and extras: Chatr has broader 4G LTE reach, more data at the $25 and $30 tiers, a $21 plan tier, annual plan options, and travel add-ons for the US, Mexico, Europe, India, and China. PC Mobile counters with 5G speeds from $25/month, far more data at the top tier, a top-up data bonus on every plan, unlimited international messaging on every plan, unlimited US and long distance calling from $25/month, and PC Optimum points on every top-up, but offers no roaming of any kind.
Plans and pricing
Chatr offers 7 prepaid no-contract plans: five monthly plans from $19 to $35 and two annual plans at $100 and $159 per year, all provisioned at 4G LTE speeds with auto-pay data bonuses on monthly plans. PC Mobile offers 4 prepaid no-contract plans from $19 to $34 per month, with a top-up data bonus on every plan (1GB on the $19 plan, and auto top-up bonuses of 1GB to 5GB on the $25, $30, and $34 plans) and 5G access on its $25, $30, and $34 tiers. Both carriers include unlimited Canada-wide talk and text on their $19 plans. Both carriers start at $19/month and are bring-your-own-phone only.
With bonuses counted, the two carriers trade wins tier by tier. At $19, both land at 1GB on 4G once their bonuses are counted. At $25, Chatr gives 6GB on 4G versus PC Mobile's 5GB on 5G, and at $30, Chatr gives 20GB on 4G versus 15GB on 5G at PC Mobile. The top tier flips sharply: PC Mobile delivers 55GB on 5G for $34, while Chatr's $35 plan tops out at 35GB on 4G, so PC Mobile gives 20GB more for $1 less. Chatr also has a $21 tier with 1.5GB that PC Mobile does not match, plus two annual prepaid options: $100/yr (400 minutes and 400 texts, no data) and $159/yr (40GB 4G with unlimited international messages).
5G and network coverage
Coverage data is based on registered tower locations from the ISED tower registry and Statistics Canada 2021 census boundaries. Rogers network data was last updated 2026-03-04; Bell network data was updated March 2026. Chatr runs on the Rogers network, which has the wider 4G LTE footprint of the two, but Chatr's plans are sold at 4G LTE speeds only, even though the Rogers network itself reaches 96.7% of Canadians on 5G. PC Mobile runs on the Bell network and does give customers on its $25, $30, and $34 plans access to Bell 5G.
On 4G LTE, Chatr's Rogers network reaches 98.3% of Canadians from 12,284 towers, ahead of PC Mobile's Bell network at 92.8% from 9,986 towers. On 5G, PC Mobile is the only option of the two: customers on $25+ plans can reach Bell 5G, which covers 76.5% of Canadians through 3,972 dedicated 5G sites, while Chatr customers stay on 4G LTE. Both carriers are available in all provinces and the three territories.

Roaming rates compared
Chatr is the only one of these two carriers with any roaming product. It sells flat one-time data packs: $20 for 5GB usable in both the USA and Mexico, and $15 for 1GB covering a European country group (France, Germany, Italy, or the UK, billed together at that rate) or India/China. PC Mobile has no roaming option for the US or any international destination; its unlimited US calling is a domestic feature for calling US numbers from Canada, not a roaming product for use while travelling.
United States
| Option | Chatr Mobile | PC Mobile |

|---|---|---|
| Data add-on - 1GB (India/China rate) | $15.00 | No roaming option |
| Larger data add-ons | No larger option | No roaming option |
Chatr's roaming lineup is limited to flat data packs with no talk or text add-ons, but it is still a meaningful step up from PC Mobile, which offers nothing at all. Anyone on PC Mobile who travels, even just across the border to the US, will need a separate travel SIM or eSIM. Chatr customers can cover a short US or Mexico trip with a single $20 pack.
Device financing
Neither Chatr nor PC Mobile sells mobile devices, so there is no device financing with either carrier. Both are bring-your-own-device services, and customers will need an unlocked phone to switch to either one.
Perks and add-ons
Chatr Mobile offers auto-pay data bonuses on its monthly plans, adding between 0.5GB and 5GB of extra data each month at no extra cost when enrolled in auto-pay. Every plan includes unlimited Canada-wide talk and text, starting with the $19 plan. Plans are entirely prepaid with no contract and no credit check, and two annual options are available for light users: $100/yr for talk and text only, or $159/yr for 40GB of 4G data with unlimited international messages. Travel add-ons are available for the USA and Mexico, a European country group, and India/China.
PC Mobile includes PC Optimum rewards integration across all plans. New customers earn 20,000 PC Optimum points after two months of service. Every top-up earns 5% of the top-up value in PC Optimum points, and an additional 5% is earned when signing up for Auto-Allowance or Allowance paid with a PC Financial Mastercard or PC Money Account. All 4 plans include unlimited international messaging and a top-up data bonus: 1GB on the $19 plan, which also includes unlimited Canada-wide talk and text and unlimited US messages, and auto top-up bonuses of 1GB on the $25 plan and 5GB on the $30 and $34 plans. The $25, $30, and $34 plans add 5G access, unlimited US calling, and unlimited long distance calling. Data service passes of 200MB for $5 and 3GB for $15 are available, each valid for 30 days. PC Mobile supports eSIM.
Customer support
Both carriers offer in-store support. PC Mobile adds phone and email support plus self-serve tools, while Chatr relies on an online support ticket system and mail, with no phone support line. Chatr has not yet accumulated a customer rating on Topicks.ca, and PC Mobile scores 1.0/5.
Who should choose which?
- You want the widest 4G LTE reach of the two - 98.3% of Canadians on the Rogers network versus 92.8% on Bell
- You want more data at mid-range prices - 6GB at $25 and 20GB at $30 with auto-pay, versus 5GB and 15GB at PC Mobile
- You want a $21 plan with 1.5GB of data with auto-pay, a price point PC Mobile does not offer
- You travel to the US, Mexico, Europe, India, or China and want a roaming add-on, since PC Mobile offers none
- You prefer an annual prepaid plan ($100/yr or $159/yr) over monthly top-ups
- You are happy with 4G LTE speeds
- You want 5G speeds, available on PC Mobile plans from $25/month while Chatr is 4G only
- You use a lot of data - 55GB on 5G for $34 versus 35GB on 4G for $35 at Chatr
- You call US numbers from Canada and want unlimited US and long distance calling included from $25/month
- You want unlimited international messaging on every plan
- You shop at PC-affiliated stores and want PC Optimum points on every top-up, plus the 20,000-point welcome bonus
- You want phone and email support in addition to in-store help
Chatr wins on 4G coverage, mid-tier data, plan choice with $21 and annual options, and roaming add-ons, making it the better pick for budget users who want broad Rogers coverage and the option to use their phone while travelling. PC Mobile wins on 5G speeds, top-tier data, US and long distance calling, international messaging, PC Optimum rewards, and phone support, making it the stronger fit for heavier data users and PC Optimum shoppers who stay in Canada.
The deciding factors are whether you need 5G and lots of data, or wider 4G reach and travel add-ons. Neither carrier offers device financing or a price lock.
